This is a long outdated video which I prepared almost 2 years ago. It's not fully meant to be a tutorial hence the fast foward, but it'll be great if anyone finds this useful :P
I was modelling a basic 3D bird in Maya for a short film production I did in school called Gan Cheong Kin (GCK) Season 3.
It's kept really basic because of the style of the film, but it can be brought futher for zbrushing or mudboxing. The model is available from the free downloads section
3D Shading, Lighting and Rendering I did for my friend, Ling Wei. He is really passionate about 3D modelling. If I'm not wrong, this is his first 3D car model!
It's impressive, right? :D
I was trying to achieve a basic studio shoot rendering. It's a pity I do not have nice images or HDRIs to do a photo realistic composite. Hope you'll like it Ling Wei!

Here is a wireframe version of the 3D MINI Cooper S Lighting and Rendering Exercise I did earlier. By the way, there has been some queries on how to achieve the rendered wireframes on 3D models. If this information is of help to anybody, tt is actually done using the mental ray contour simple shader.
Took my MINI out for a HDRI ride! ;) It's interesting to do HDRI lighting especially when provided with high quality backplates. It will be interesting to have some animation rendered. But for now, hope you'll like it.
Completed the majority of the modelling revamp of Digiron this morning! I'll be working on the uwrapping and texturing and hopefully rigging tmr!
This afternoon, I worked on the style for Steampunk using Digiron as the subject. The idea was to achieve the Street Fighter IV Game Trailer Style. It requires some maya fluids to make the mimic better! :D enjoy!
So for easier skinning and rigging, I gave him a sweater... his eyes are just a texture now, his ears are weird.. But these are not going to last for long! :D
Here's the current look..
Here's a list of things I want to improve on him: 1. Give him some eyebrows 2. Improve his hair 3. Overall proportions can be pushed 4. Give him a jacket [That's what I'm always wearing] 5. More definition in jeans 6. Nicer shoes 7. Improved fingers and nails 8. Textures 9. Oh my! There's currently no specular on the face! 10. Nicer eyeballs 11. His ears are now.. Uh~
In this composition, following Mr Frety's advice, I added the radial specular to separate the car from the background. And it works! But! I did this in post which is not what I intended. I will do it in 3D next. Hee hee!
I switched to the mental ray car paint shader instead of the layered shader. It really works better too!
Added falloff the the light and reflection planes and the reflection looks like what I wanted to achieve already! Yay!
I looked up some tutorials on how to make a car paint shader.
My friends, Bogard and Jason, gave me the idea to have a layered shader for my car paint. I spent quite some time connecting shading nodes all over and...
I'm very happy with the look currently. Plenty more shaders to design and textures to create. Will be back soon!
Hello! My progress of the Mini Cooper S 2007 within the past few days. I started this project a year ago hoping to decorate it with many cute soft shell turtles. I got all too busy with studies and I revived this project a few days ago and here's my progress.
Modelled the MINI badge and did a test render of it. It needs a slight tweak to the raytracing samples.
I'm almost done with modelling this car and I really like the result. Hope to post the final model here soon! :D
